See Thou Do It Not! Why this Instruction in Revelation?

See Thou Do It Not

In chapters 19 and 22 of Revelation we read the admonishment to not worship the bringer of the message, but God only:

“And I [John] fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God” (19:10).

Worshiping Before Feet

“And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things” (22:8).

“Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God” (22:9).

Good Master

Several other passages in the Bible give a similar kind of message, for example in Mark 10:17-18.

“…there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God.”
